Eritrean leader rejects stand-off with Djibouti
Eritrean President Issaias Afeworki denied having a frontier stand-off with Djibouti even though tension has grown in recent weeks. Djibouti accused Eritrean military forces of digging trenches on their common border and infiltrating Djiboutian territory.
Djibouti and Eritrean have clashed twice over the border at the southern end of the Red Sea. They almost went to war in 1996 after Djibouti accused them of shelling the town of Ras Doumeria.

Djibouti, Africa: Base Operations Contracting
Djibouti is an important base for western naives, the French Foreign Legion, and the US Marines. It sits in a very strategic location, at the entrance to the Red Sea and astride the passage from the Indian Ocean to the Suez Canals. Contractors are involved in keeping the bases running. The bases contractor is PAE Goverments Service Inc. in Los Angeles, California. It recieved $56.2 million to exercise the first option period under firm-fixed price. After the exercise of this option, the total contract amount will be $119.7 million, and the contract contains 3 one year option periods, which brings the contract value to 177.6 million if contract is exercised.
